Journal sillypixie's Journal: sounds familiar 4

I had to pass this one on, I hope you all haven't seen it 50 million times before :)
From somasegar's blog

A man in a hot air balloon is lost. He sees a man on the ground and reduces height to speak to him.

"Excuse me, can you tell me where I am?"

"You're in a hot air balloon hovering thirty feet above this field," comes the reply.

"You must work in Information Technology," says the balloonist.

"I do," says the man, "How did you know?"

"Well," says the balloonist, "Everything you told me is technically correct, but it's no use to anyone."

"You must be in business," says the man.

"I am," says the balloonist, "How did you know?"

"Well," says the man, "You don't know where you are, you don't know where you're going, but you expect me to be able to help. You're in the same position you were before we met, but now it's my fault."

  • My boss isn't a business man, but he sounds just like the business man. I am slowly becoming a man that isn't afraid to cry.
    • Yeah, been there, done that, gave him the boot. My stress level has gone down by a few orders of magnitude, I get paid better, and enjoy the work more.

      • The reason I keep my job is I like the people I work with, even though I've been offered better paying jobs. I've learned that sometimes there are more important things than money. I wouldn't say I grew up in a rough low income household, but I didn't grow up in a perfect house hold either. I've moved a lot and right now, I just want to be somewhere and have friends.
    • Yah, this is my current client. The worst thing is, you can tell them which way to go, but if the wind ain't blowin in that direction, well it doesn't matter how informative you are or how well you outline the direction.

The rule on staying alive as a program manager is to give 'em a number or give 'em a date, but never give 'em both at once.
