writing just for the novelty of writing in taiwan. smoke inhalation reaching dangerous levels in internet cafe. i've been driving around the longitudinal valley for two days. there's a tectonic plate boundary there and all. saw big rocks today. cannot communicate in chinese. very hilarious.

I took German for four years and even at the end of my last semester, I could write pretty well with a dictionary, but holding down a conversation with a native German just illuminated that vast gaping holes in my vocabulary. I wish I could get German TV in the states, I would just leave it running all the time. The other day I was listening to a German scientist talking about the Huygens probe, and I think I understood 50%, but she was just talking about how excited she was.
