I tried a few on the localhost line. DNSAPI seems to honor them.
For example:
127.0.0.1 localhost www.microsoft.com
PING www.microsoft.com resolves to 127.0.0.1 (and succeeds ;)
and http://www.microsoft.com/ fails (resolvs to 127.0.0.1 then redirs to a search)
Move it to it's own line, and the "trigger" kicks in.
I'm running WXP SP2 (w/ all the latest patches)
