Journal shankar2k's Journal: New Year's Misadventures 2

My friends from Berkeley and I have been meeting up every year since we graduated for New Year's. Its a nice little tradition we have. This year, Malay and Avani decided not to join us because they were on this "honeymoon" in "Belize". Likely story. We've been alternating between New Year's in Southern and Northern California, but we did Socal for two years straight because some of us had hoped to see Cal in the Rose Bowl last year (stupid Texas). So the Bay Area was about due.

I decided to drive up from LA in my dad's car. Rishi was kind enough to let me stay at his place. We all met up at this combination Irish Pub/Indian Restaurant called Kennedy's. It actually was a pretty nice place with good beer and good Indian food. Since they only had beer and wine, we went down the street to this dive bar and had rounds of shots. We headed to the Embarcadero Center to see fireworks for the New Year.

The drive home was torturous. I left the Bay Area around 11 in the morning, figuring I would get home after 5. At around 4:30, traffic on the 5 freeway ground to a halt because the high winds knocked a power line onto the road. So I was stuck there until about 8:30. I think I would have gone completely insane if not the college bowl games I listened to on the radio. I was just going to sleep at a motel, but as I got to the hotel, I saw the 5 entrance right there, completely free. I was so mad that I decided to just push on through. So I finally got hope at about 10:45 pm, almost 12 hours after I left.

I definitely need a vacation from my New Years trip.
