What I like wasn't the plot or even the technical details (both bombed); it was just a tiny glimpse of being there on Mars and seeing the planets of the Solar System (even though overgrossly disproportionate) from space. I also like the design of the intergalactic spacecraft they had and other "martian" technologies. Technically though, I did feel that the Martian surface was precise in its portrayal. On the other hand, when the main character (Tim Robbins) removed his helmet, I expected his face to explode from his blood pressure and the possibility of boiling too fast due to the sudden shift in atmospheric pressure. What do you think?
