This is just a continuation of the hysteria and misinformation started by Google and other Big Tech after they exploded in size and became targets of numerous patent infringement lawsuits. It is true that a majority of patents are of low quality, but there are still patents which indeed are borne out of true inventions. By the way, there are also a large number of patents which describe valid and interesting inventions but do not claim them properly, making them useless for litigation purposes. Big Tech success necessarily relies of inventions of others and it is only fair that they pay for it. However, annoyed, Big Tech, and Google in particular, started a troll scare campaign and sent hordes of lobbyists to Washington which resulted in anti-patent legislation, changes in the USPTO and the courts.
Patent quality aside, no sane patent holder will sue unless the infringing product makes hundreds of millions in revenue. It is simply not an economically viable proposition. Which begs the question: why is it necessary to call upon the multitudes of ordinary citizens to fight their wars for a t-shirt when they should be able to pay the standard hourly rate attorney rate of $600-$1000?
