As one who has only known xTalks since 1983, or whenever it was I cracked open my first mac, and wrote "On Mouseup
answer "hello world"
end mouseup
and have since worked on the web since 1995 managed many dedicated web servers, participated in building 100,000 plus web page over the years and hire and fired many other peole who wrote in PHP and C, where the current web server has 100's of CGI's written in runRev Revtalk, which run 20 faster than most PHP apps I just have to feel sorry for those who haven't tried it...
There is one "great web site" where the developers were so proud that the whole back end was written in C++ and there was not a drop of 4G language (not even PHP) behind it. But the thing runs so slow it makes me cry every time I have to log in and do things in my account. Of course the old saying is everyone is an advocate for the tools he is knows. Which is true, but if I can code a web app in 150 lines that (not including css and html) in a few hours, most of which is spend in "careful consideration" and not actual coding, why on earth would I ever want to do the same thing in 1000 lines of unreadable Javascript or Action script in Flash.
I'm spoiled by never having had the time or money to use do anything but revTalk and now, happily I feel like I'm 10 years ahead of the pack since the new irev server engine was released.
Of course there will always be some things any particular language can't do. I will *still* need a little java script to hide and show a hidden
of course, but...well, all comments here from anyone who hasn't actually tried building apps in revTalk are kind of useless verbiage.
I once dove into action script to create a little Flash web app, only to bail 3 days later... I build the app I wanted in 6 hours with runRev.
Obviously I'm a hopelessly biased advocate, but, hey, at age 56, I don't have a lot of time to waste with languages that are unproductive. And Productivity is RunRev's great power. Besides, it's just way too much fun and if you *have* to do programming... it should be... Besides, its free now and the young generation will pick it up in a heartbeat so, this boat is already sailing.
