This is my dumb opinion, but academia is meant to be iterated upon by others referencing work. Just as "publish or die" is an academic addage, failing to adopt new tools is also death.

Innovation is about digging through the mountain of slop for a few useful nuggets. (This is also how academia works. I'm not trying to make some conservative spin on how "woke" academics are useless. It's simply a matter of the fact that around each bright master of their study is a graduating corona of talent.) Embrace change in productivity tools, just as we should embrace change in the meaning of words over time.

Gouging them into being unprofitable is a good start.

Even if fossil fuels are used to produce the electricity, by having all of the appliance itself use electricity rather than natural gas, you simplify infrastructure and make it way easier to transition to non "green"(er) sources of energy.
