Iâ(TM)m happy with the article, they got the point that itâ(TM)s an impossible configuration even if the data in the article doesnâ(TM)t point out that itâ(TM)s the public Ip combination and local ip with the other content in the zoom logs thatâ(TM)s incorrect. Thereâ(TM)s a lot of data presented to the reporter that was technical and detailed and the issue at hand is the school has the wrong kid. Iâ(TM)ve been misquoted in much worse ways, for 20 years and itâ(TM)s always a chance you take. I wanted the point to be that the school has the wrong info and hanging this on the wrong kid. They did that in this article.

The local ip is in fact logged by zoom which originated the logs in question. And while duplication of ip is probably related to CGNat the school subpoenaed Comcast but didnâ(TM)t wait for the results to come back before making the final decision. So instead the said all the kids (20+) logged in with that address were this one kid. But the local pi address logged by zoom matched other students in other sessions, not some random number. Thatâ(TM)s why it says things the way it does, clearly things that would be questionable in the logs were ignore by the forensic examiner of the school system.

The subnet isnâ(TM)t some other random number, itâ(TM)s numbers that matched other kids logged into sessions. So if you spin up a vm and want to be another student the subnet matched other student names. However I also have the machine and there is not vm or any version of a vm on the machine. There are things that are not random.

I believe itâ(TM)s one item in a list of items. There are other items in the log they should have noticed, and the subpoenaed Comcast for the info, however they decided to make the decision before they received info back from Comcast on the person and billing, and then refused to review a report I wrote from the appeal that pointed out all the inconsistencies. So they had a chance to get the correct data, before deciding. Thatâ(TM)s why I say it has nothing to do with facts since they made the decision with any facts. as best as I can tell they did not even call zoom to confirm the results even from that report weâ(TM)re correct. They had already decided with a single fact.

Itâ(TM)s difficult for a reporter to write about IP info, It was supposed to be - Since zoom tracked local ip numbers and there is a correct local ip for the kid that matches Comcast config in router, the bad guys did not have local ip addresses in the same block. So this bad person was not in the same house as the kid, so itâ(TM)s impossible it was this kid. There are a lot of other reasons I know itâ(TM)s not him, but thatâ(TM)s the idea.

There are also local ip numbers in the logs tracked by zoom software installed on the client side. What the school is doing is blaming ALL the other student sessions on this one kid as if he is zoom bombing with all their names. Thatâ(TM)s the point, it sticks out like a sore thumb that those are other real sessions but the school says this kid is all of them, himself, more than 20 other kids, and the âoebad actorâ

This isnâ(TM)t related to CGNat. Clearly this article doesnâ(TM)t have all the details or the logs, and as you probably realize we talk to a reporter for an hour but they can only tell so much. Itâ(TM)s a complex issue. Iâ(TM)m not able to release any of the more detailed items but the logs from zoom absolutely have errors and issues.
