Yes, obviously the entire critique of "state A will dump toxic waste B into hole C, poisoning people in state D" is entirely and specifically limited to Wyoming and PCBs. No other state and no other chemical could possibly be of concern under the aforementioned model.

Come on. This is a basic market externality. When was the last time a US company was fined in excess of the amount of money their malfeasance made them? It basically never happens.

Without a federal agency empowered to actually DO something to protect these waters they're going to be systematically exploited and people are going to suffer and die.

If you were actually a tech guy instead of a shill you would know how trivially easy it is to program around the issues you describe. Many retailers have already fielded fixes for these issues. But then again, you already know that, don't you? That's not your purpose here.

I would MUCH rather see a half dozen minimum self checkout lanes simply because I'm not an idiot and can check myself out far faster than all but the best cashiers.

This law is nothing more than the naked self interest of the unions on full display, masquerading as a public good. That's the socialist way but it seems many people are too stupid to realize that.

Ah, naked self interest masquerading as the greater good: it's the socialist way. You would think that all the presumably smart and educated people in places like Portland could learn from history, but unfortunately they need to be bludgeoned over the head with the negative consequences before it sinks in that maybe it isn't such a great idea after all.

Now I remember why I stopped posting on slashdot. Too full off fools. Your insults and threats of violence would be pathetic if these attitudes weren't so widespread among the radical environmentalists that too often overpopulate these forums.

Nuclear is the only currently available tech that can meet base demand anywhere and any time, solar can not without some sort of storage scheme. And it gets cloudy in a lot of places, severely reducing efficiency. But you knew that and don't care. Your kind won't be happy until you are all shivering in the dark, grinning idiot grins at one another for saving mother earth.

It's no surprise your kind want to repeal the second amendment because it's clear you want to use the power of the government to force everyone at gunpoint into your cockamamie schemes and don't want any resistance.

So please fuck off. You clearly know nothing of engineering and are only capable of parroting communist party lines.

Is this what passes for science these days? So much derp it's hard to know where to start. First, it doesn't "store gravitational energy" it stores kinetic energy. The amount of equipment and energy it takes to move sand or gravel around, merely owing to the fact that it's sand/gravel and not water is huge. The reason we use water in hydroelectric power generation is because it is easy, relatively cheap and clean to move around - all you need are pumps, pipes and cisterns. For sand and gravel it's not so easy. Additionally, sand and gravel will degrade to dust, the very fine kind that gets into everything mechanical and destroys it, like the equipment you will need to move it around in the first place.

This sounds like the kind of feel good scam somebody is using to get a fat government contract. Solyndra 2 anyone? Who's getting rich?

Nuclear energy is the only proven non-CO2 emitting technology available to fill the gap.
