phonograph. a device that takes captured sound, even a full symphony or bad-ass rock and roll band, and renders it almost true to life through the magic of vinyl/acetate/glass and a needle. before that, you had to hear music live or not at all. after, you could sit in your living room, close your eyes, and almost believe it was live.
