Submission + - New York Times Ends Its Paid Subscription Service (reuters.com) 1

Mike writes: "The New York Times has finally admitted that making people pay for its content is a losing proposition. The paper has announced that it will end its paid Internet service in favor of making most of its Web site available for free in the hopes of attracting more readers and higher advertising revenue. This had been predicted countless times and is now coming to pass. How long before other online papers and similar information services come to the same realization and open up their sites?"

Submission + - Graduate with bad grades or repeat an year? 16

An anonymous reader writes: I'm a CS Student within one year of graduation.
Because of financial reasons I've been working on a full time basis for the past 2 years + worked on an open source project.
This has brought me from B+ & A in my first two years of college to somewhere in the mists of C and lower.
I now have enough money to sustain myself for two years of schooling.
I've got two choices:
  • a) repeat one year, repair all my bad grades and graduate with better grades but with a mark that I repeated one school year
  • b) graduate with lower grades but with no repeated year.
I'd like to know the opinion of recruiters out there: if you had two candidates which ranked similarly during the interviews but one is of type a) the other of type b), which would you favour?

Submission + - Science fair project exposes GlaxoSmithKline lies

shadowspar writes: "Despite claims made by GlaxoSmithKline that their Ribena soft drinks are high in Vitamin C, two New Zealand high school students found in their science fair research project that at least some formulations of the drink contained no detectable levels of the vitamin. As a result, GSK has been fined over $200,000 by the NZ Commerce Commission and ordered to run newspaper ads admitting that some of their drinks contain no Vitamin C."

Do I have to be able to pass "Max 300" on heavy in order to be considered a competent DDR player?

Does it really matter? Personally, I don't care. I'll just play to have fun. I'll play the Maxes once in a while to burn out at the end, but I play mostly 8 and 7 footers.

The competition is the one thing I hate about DDR. "I AAAed LOM WITH A HUGE DUMP IN MY PANTS!" Good for you. If you consider spazzing out to PSM Oni "fun," then more power to ya.
But what other people think of your abilities shouldn't interfere with your fun.
