TLS sounds about right. The protocol also provides a verification protocol (see http://waveprotocol.org/), so actions performed by any participant in a hosted conversation can always be verified by other participants in that hosted conversation, regardless of their provider. What this means for you: encryption (TLS), and your contributions can't be tampered with.

If you move a compiled app to the iPhone without running it through XCode, it just gives a giant image of an application icon when run. No doubt this will be hacked soon enough.

So I have a piece on my blog about detecting mobile browsers and some PHP code to do it. One part of the code checks 67 text snippets against the User Agent string, and a visitor asked if the way I was doing it -- putting all the snippets in an array and regex matching them one at a time -- was more efficient than using one giant regex with all the snippets in it.

Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales has said teachers who refuse students access to the site are "bad educators". Speaking at the Online Information conference at London's Olympia, he dismissed the long-running controversy over the site's authority. He said he now thinks that students should be able to cite the online encyclopaedia in their work.

This project, named WearIT@work will end in one year and was funded with 14.3 million euros of EU money, even if the total project cost is expected to exceed 23 million euros. This wearable system is currently being tested in four different fields including aircraft maintenance, emergency response, car production and healthcare. Carl Bialik from WSJ writes "Some record labels hire outside companies to plant fake files on peer-to-peer sites. Now, labels are turning these decoy files into vehicles for marketing to music pirates by inserting promotional material into the files, such as an eight-minute clip from a Jay-Z concert, the Wall Street Journal reports." From the article: "'The concept here is making the peer-to-peer networks work for us,' says Jay-Z's attorney, Michael Guido. 'While peer-to-peer users are stealing the intellectual property, they are also the active music audience,' and 'this technology allows us to market back to them.'"
