I agree that a "trusted user" approach is much better. Have the "administrator" invoke permissions based on serial numbers for devices. In a workplace the user will only be allowed to use the devices approved by the "administrator". At home we turn it off, or allow our own devices (allows us to restrict friends/family we don't trust). I would think this makes more sense then putting a default do not allow untrusted devices.
Products have to give the owner a choice, if they don't then the product will not be successful.
