The Wiimote As Yoda Intended - A Lightsaber 268

An anonymous reader writes "So what if the Wii can't handle the awesome 'next-generation' physics engine the other consoles will enjoy when Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is released? LucasArts announced today that Krome Studios is developing a version of the game for the Nintendo console, and players will finally get to use the Wiimote for its intended purpose — as a lightsaber. 'The sword-swinging action will be exclusive to the Wii version, and even then, it will only be available in an exclusive "duel mode." The description in the release says that this duel mode will be a multiplayer affair.'"

Try IMAP IDLE first, which uses a persistent TCP session. It's included in most newer IMAP servers.

If you have access to a cheap SMS sending service, and a phone that supports it, OMA Email Notification is an alternative. It's a simple email notification carried over wap push, which in turn can use SMS as a bearer.

Judge Says RIAA Can't Have Hard Drive 233

NewYorkCountryLawyer writes "A Texas judge has refused to allow the RIAA untrammelled access to the defendant's hard drive in SONY v. Arellanes. The court ruled that only a mutually agreeable, neutral computer forensics expert may examine the hard drive, at the RIAA's expense, and that the parties must agree on mutually acceptable provisions for confidentiality."

Teens Arrested in MySpace Extortion Scam 193

An anonymous reader writes "Two New York teens have been arrested after trying to extort $150,000 from the makers of MySpace, the popular online community site." From the article: " MySpace discovered the intrusion earlier this year and blocked it. The Los Angeles-based company also reported the incident to authorities. During the course of the investigation, threats were made that unless $150,000 was paid, new exploit code would be released, according to the statement. By this time, the sting operation had been set up, so instead of meeting with MySpace late last week, the pair from New York met with undercover officers from the U.S. Secret Service and the Los Angeles District Attorney's Bureau of Investigation. You say "of what few freedoms the people of China have left". Like they had more freedom before? While I agree that China certainly has a lot of problems in this area, it was not very long ago they had the same kinds of policies as North Korea (e.g. kill 3 generations down of a family if you suspect a member is a "liability") so things are definatly better today than they have been. I'm not saying things are good, if someone publicly speaks negatively about the government they get thrown into jail. But that's still a lot better than what would have happened a couple of decades ago. I for one think things are moving in the right direction. It may take a long time for them to reach the kind of freedom we are talking about and every once in a while repots like these show up. But if you only focus on the negative information and don't see the bigger picture of course things will look bad.
