Comment all lowercase (Score 1) 286

Hah. I trust Linus when he says case-insensitive filesystem are bad. Usually we users just take the easy way out by keeping to the names-are-lowercase convention for file names and directory names and a lot of other stuff. Still funny to see that you can have the same name in a number of casings in the same directory :-)

Comment Everyone attend office 5 days a week. (Score 1) 141

If you want to make your point: everyone attend office full time for a couple of weeks. I guarantee you that nonsense is over within two weeks.

Can you see the effect? Offices packed full of people? Networks crashing because of the overload? Nobody getting any work done? Infrastructure buckling under the strain of all the people needing transportation? People in overcrowded offices calling the authorities for building violations?

Comment Free Is Not Gratis (Score 1) 43

Boy if all the freeloaders of OSS realized that open source software is not gratis and pony up the value they extract without paying anything for it. If as an organisation you're afraid that something is not tested properly then contribute testing people to it. But no. Let's put some money into AI bullshit and pretend that's a good contribution to OSS.

Comment Just stop this nonsense (Score 2) 288

There seemingly still are people that think that they can fix pollution by mitigating the adverse effects of it. This idiot thinks it's a good idea to fix it by creating acid rain. We've seen the effects of that for decades now.

There is only one single solution for stopping pollution: stop polluting.

Comment Money (Score 2) 94

Yes when focussed on money everybody has a lot of trouble figuring out the free and open source software. That's because they myopically interpret free as gratis, having a zero price, alas that is not the connotation of free here.

Mind you nobody - not even banks - has any trouble with OSS when it comes to making use of it and laughing all the way to the bank because of the cost savings...

Comment Promise of AI? Drama of AI! (Score 1) 80

Goodness! It sets back the promise of AI? What promise is that? There is no promise. And especially no promise in LLM that employs low paid labour to be able to work in the first place and uses up a lot of energy for what? Mechanized hallucinations.

Can this AI stuff explain me WHY it tells me something? Can it explain me HOW it got to the conclusion it had to say that? NO and NO. So yes it looks impressive but in the end it's a load of bollocks. Smoke and mirrors. Hype.
