Comment Re:Another con from the conman. Nothing new here. (Score 1) 153

People keep missing the point. Most Republicans are really old-school, Bible thumping Christians, trained from their youth in hellfire and brimstone and fear of an angry God. LGBT+ is the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah, and God destroyed it utterly for that sin.

God punishes the many for the sins of the few. In the book of Joshua, chapter 7, one man kept some spoils of war when God said not to. For this God punished all of Isreal, and that man and his entire family were stoned to death. The point that is hammered home from the pulpit is if you do not actively persecute those sinners, you yourself will be punished for that sin.

Having said all that, it's amazing which sins they tend to overlook. Is "Christian Darwinism" a thing?

Comment Maybe a solution for Data Centers? (Score 1) 81

One of the big problems with data centers is the power required for cooling all of those servers. Wouldn't it be great if we didn't have to worry about that so much? Instead of high-power air-conditioners, we could just use big fans. Further, aren't these new devices more efficient with power? That would be a further gain.

What struck me about the article is they use Liquid Carbon Dioxide as the refrigerant. Carbon Dioxide has long been a possibility for a refrigerant. It's cheap, non-toxic and except for the high pressures needed is almost ideal. But, for reasons I don't understand, it's not used much because it has a tendency to turn from liquid to dry ice instead of turning into a gas, thus clogging up the plumbing. I wonder how they have solved this problem?

I live near Cincinnati. One day I had to do some urgent business in Washington DC. On one day's notice I had to drive straight through to the DC area, arriving at 11pm (10 hour drive), be at the Chinese Embassy at 8am the next morning, transact my business, then go back home to be at work the next day. That's 500 miles in 10 hours, sleep for 6 hours, then 500 miles back. There's no EV on the planet that could make that trip in that time frame. AND Charging stations in Kentucky are few and far between, and often vandalized or not working.

That's what confuses people from outside the USA; our size. You can start in Texas, drive 14+ hours at interstate speed, and still be in Texas. I've heard of visitors saying "We have one day to sight-see. Statue of Liberty in the morning, Disney World at Lunch, then Grand Canyon at dinner time." They are astonished to learn it would take 2 days of driving just to get from NYC to Disney World.

So what works in Europe won't work here.

Comedian Kathleen Madigan talked about a USO tour she did with Louis Black in Afghanistan. She said it was like they had landed in the Bible. It appears that Taliban and decreed that Afghanistan will be reverted to world of the Bible.

If they REALLY did that it would be OK. No matter how mad they got, there's just so much damage you can do with sticks and stones. Trouble is they want the ancient world and are willing to enforce it with modern weapons.

No, you got your head in the sand. Landlords can do whatever they want to, especially in a tight housing market. Illegal? That means you'll need a lawyer they know you cannot afford, to fight their lawyers are retainer. And the Government enforcement is either paid off with bribes, or are the landlords themselves.
