Comment NSF hand washing procedures (Score 1) 471

While working in the restaurant industry I had to take a NSF (National Sanitation Foundation, NOT National Science Foundation) exam when preparing for management. According to NSF proper hand washing procedures go along the following lines (may not be exact, but you'll get the point).

  1. Dispense paper towel prior to washing hands, but do not tear off of dispenser
  2. Wash hands under water that is hot as you can physically stand
  3. Scrub with soap up to your elbows for 20 seconds (about how long it takes to recite the alphabet), pay special care between the fingers
  4. Rinse soap off and tear paper towel to dry hands
  5. Turn off running water with used paper towel
  6. Open door with used paper towel, toss paper towel into trash bin

Now you don't have to worry about those little extras others may have left behind, and you have properly killed most of the bacteria you are carrying.
