The grid will need more capacity in the future but the EV's connected to the grid can help the grid. If EV's are connected to the grid especially the new LFP batteries models they can help the grid. EV's could help during peak usage times (Virtual Power Plants); likewise; grid operators could throttle EV charging rates during peak usage times. There needs to be financial incentives for EV owners to get them to Opt-In and participate. Elon is not for this because they sell Powerwalls but with competition from other EV manufactures and possible future government mandates, I believe many changes will/should happen at the EV/Grid interface. Solar helps the grid now while the sun is shining and batteries can help whether they be fixed storage or mobile in EV's.
