It blows my mind when a medical provider asks me to utilize a fax. Maybe security was an issue years ago but now some how the Financial Institutions I deal with have solved the security issues and thankfully don't ask me to fax them. I read somewhere faxes are still very popular in Japan. They also have a reputation for still pushing a lot of paper vs using electronic docs.

I believe around 1985 the Fortune 500 company I worked for decided everyone had to be computer literate. About the only time they were prescient. They bought everyone (including me) a PC along with a special PC workstation desk with pretty much same configuration below. Literally thousands of them. Pallets of them lined all the hallways till they were set up. I remember the all up list price on the package was around $8k, over $20K in todays dollars. I later found out they had a 3 year payback because each replaced an IBM 3270 that IBM was renting us at $200+ per month.
