I need two things here: 1) screen sharing with no the fly control / master screen switch (ala Teamviewer) 2) Reliable voice calls (ala Skype). Thanks in advance :)

Skype is buggy and consumes too much CPU. Teamviewer is not connecting. Question: Is there any software which allows screen sharing and switch sides (switch the side which is showing its screen)?

Skype is buggy and consumes lots of CPU. I haven't been able to make Teamviewer work. Alternatives to those 2 have been hard to find.

Problem is skype for linux is not a good tool (version 2 beta is the latest). It also tends to overheat my laptop. :S

I think the register is oversimplifying here. PHP, Ruby on Rails, Python, Scala... Sure Java is a complicated beast and it has become more and more difficult to sell to new customers, but .NET is not the only one eating Java's pie. Now, I wonder: how much .NET customers have found out they overpaid for a .NET application when they could have done as good with an X language alternative?

Ok. I am south american and I have worked for years both in the computer industry and as a social worker. Now let me see if I am getting this straight: You are telling me that some web 2.0 companies can't make a profit from developing countries while cellphone companies sell millions and millions of shiny new cellphones and cellphones lines to poor people? And you tell me it is not the companies' fault? Mmmmm... I may be wrong, but could it be that sitting there in their air conditioned offices is not getting them a clear picture on how to make businesses in different cultures?

PS: By the way, I haven't found an English translation for this, but we are not "poor people" but "personas en situaciÃn de pobreza". Hope you do get the difference there ;)
