A degree from India is absolutely meaningless. They have a "university" practically on every street corner because Coder has become their #1 export. Zero accreditation for almost all of them, and from my 16 years of experience in the industry the "programmers" they churn out are worse than someone after a 3 week boot camp out here.
Just started on book 3, Emperor of Thorns. Really like the setting and first person narrative. The threads he weaves in from years past are well done too.
Computer literacy I understand, buy why is computer science required? Thats like saying everyone needs architecture training so they can be carpenters.

GameSetWatch has put up an article about the characteristics that give games in the survival-horror genre the ability to unnerve, startle, and scare players in ways that most games don't. The genre has seen a resurgence lately, with titles like Dead Space, F.E.A.R. 2, and Left 4 Dead posting strong sales numbers. What triggers your fight-or-flight impulses in games like these? From the article:
"Being visual creatures, humans are most comforted by sight because of our ability to discern objects, action and consequences based on a picture. As a result, cutting visual stimuli and sticking purely to audio or speech is one of the best ways to keep a player on their toes. Even with weapons, it's very hard to find what you cannot see, and what you do not know. Even if visual stimuli is used, limiting or obfuscating the player's view can enhance the horror in a game, especially if the player sees it for an incredible short time. This can hint both at the difficulty of an upcoming encounter, or even allude to matters earlier in the narrative that the player will soon have to face."
For years I had a beautiful 24" Sony GDM-FW900, and then it busted.
I wish I had known about input lag before I plopped down $600 for a Dell 2408WFP. This thing SUCKS!
Java is a powerful programming language, but its also very easy to write code in. Meaning you dont have to have any understanding of machine architecture or memory to program it, but its easy to write programs that run slow as shit.
Especially if you graduated from an Indian street-corner university where they dont teach that.
Hothead Games has announced that the second episode of the Penny Arcade: On the Rain-slick Precipice of Darkness series is coming out this Wednesday, and they've released a trailer showing off some of the gameplay. ACG has an interview with Hothead's Joel DeYoung discussing the series and explaining some of the decision-making that went into its development. The game will launch for Linux, Mac, PC, and Xbox Live, with a PS3 version coming later. Feedback from players of the first game in the series inspired a $5 decrease in price this time around.
"This got me to wondering, what if he announced a sourceforge project?"
