The problem I have is that the article is that it is concluding that timing the market is a good strategy. The long term returns of the stock market are more than 10% when annualized so that robo-advisor is losing to just buying and holding VTI - a total market index. If you really want to invest I would recommend reading The Bogleheads' Guide to Investing, it shows why timing the market is a losing game. Instead they suggest allocate % you want in each asset type: i.e. X% stock fund Y% Bonds Z% CDs - then ONLY buy or sell to maintain percentages or take cash in/out of the account. Adjust those percentages to be more conservative as you get closer to needing to spend that money. -Rick
