And until then YOU rather have EVERYONE ELSE (including ME) cut on their electricity spending? This is constructive how again? You need to offer something BETTER if you want your alternative to be picked up. Life dependent on renewable energy with today's technology is not a better way of life in the pure comparative sense. I would love to hear other suggestions from you though.

The "wiring" you are talking about is a basic property of an AC distribution network - you get at least 2 (usually three) phase shifted hot wires into the building, and either get a 4th ground wire or supply your own. The voltage between any of the hot wires is 240v (just like it is 480v in Europe). By the way I am sure you have seen heavy duty 220v stoves that require 3-phase AC electricity to run. Guess what - the same stoves run at 480 in an average European home (I have one).
