If it's going to be random, what's the fun of just day to day? It should change totally randomly and suddenly. Imagine watching your friends or significant others doing something as simple as pick up a beer bottle and they go from feeling like superman because the bottle is weightless to spilling it because of a sudden shift. Even better is the thought of the shift from "space gymnastics" to "WTF, I can't even stand up."

I wouldn't mind for/against as long as a vote against didn't mean a vote for the opposition. I've been the same way in the past few elections. I did my research and thought that neither were worth a vote from me.

I made the same choice, to not vote in this election and didn't want to vote in the last but did in a futile attempt to keep a bad relationship at the time going. My ex found out that I had no intention of voting that started several arguments. She showed the same mentality that several people seem to have here that it's stupid and lazy to not vote. I ended up making a write in on that ballot for a parakeet because it was the first thing that came to mind when I got my ballot. That started more arguments because it was a waste and I should have done more research and voted for the lesser of two evils which was Kerry she seemed to be trying to tell me. I don't understand the mentality around all of this. The lesser of two evils, why should there be any evil at all? It is a broken system, massively expensive for any individual to try to over-come and even then there's the question of should they have the power that's associated with the position...

People say that it's not that futile. You can fix the system from inside by voting... I don't believe that. Far to many people follow that lesser of two evils belief and just vote against the person they don't want. That's still voting for one of the two big parties and keeping the system going. How can my one write-in change that? Where is it documented how many people voted for whatever random thing popped into their head for a write-in and what they wrote? Who, aside from who I've told, knows that I voted for a parakeet? Do you think anyone in any position of power is ever told or knows how many people wrote in something and believed in neither of the two big candidates? Every person in the world has their own beliefs and it is near impossible to change them.

My choice to not vote or in the case that I did the write-in, isn't necessarily me saying I completely disagree with every part of the government. I'm no anarchist. It is simply my way of saying that I don't agree with either of the big party candidates that will win. They believe in something that I don't or want to make changes that I don't want my vote, my name, associated with.

I'm rambling and this has gotten rather long. I'll just finish up by saying, I do love this country and I don't hold anything against anyone who does vote. As much as I don't understand your choice or your beliefs, you've made yours and I respect your right to do so. I would appreciate if more people respected my right to choose and do what I believe.

AMD To Open ATI Specs 426

Several readers tipped us the followup of yesterday's AMD/ATI news, the new development hinted at by Phoronix: AMD has announced they are releasing the specs for all new Radeon chipsets, and will be working with the open source community to develop a fully functional 2D and 3D graphics driver. An anonymous reader opines: "AMD appears to be following in Intel's footsteps with upcoming releases. If AMD is successful NVidia will have real competition in the GNU/Linux gaming arena. While past support by ATI was unsatisfactory the new AMD buyout appears to be having some effect."
