Comment Stop the fucking clickbait Slashdot, seriously (Score 3, Informative) 147

Yes, drones are aircraft, but not all aircraft are drones. This story (and the summary) is specifically focused on jamming drone communications. The Slashdot title however uses the word aircraft instead of drone, which would initially lead something into thinking this was something that could be used to take down passenger aircraft.

Even if it can cause some radio interference to an airliner (not sure if it can or if it would even matter, just speculating), the very specific use of the word "Aircraft" rather than "Drones" in the title is not an accident. Slashdot, you're supposed to be better than that. I thought your new owners were going to be trying to improve its reputation. That, along with other crappy stories and a fixation on a lot of non-geek news as well, is kinda looking a lot like the new boss is the same as the old boss.

That's modern web design for ya. I fucking hate it but I'm hardly an authority to effect change in the industry. Since everyone seems to be doing it (even certain technology-focused sites which should know better) I find it easier to just let it wash over me, as best as possible anyway. :)

It's a fucking Linux distro, not a distinct operating system. Nothing wrong with posting articles about distro releases (Mint had one recently) but it's pretentious to think it's anything but a nicely-wrapped Linux distribution that I'd imagine still guilt-trips the user if they try to download an ISO without paying for it.

I suspect this will not get noticed, but for what it's worth...

You CAN download the clean, non-ad-infected version of FileZilla from its official web site... you just need to know how:

Go here: https://filezilla-project.org/...

That link can also be found by going to the FileZilla download page and clicking on "additional download options". You will notice the binary downloads have a URL ending with ?nowrap, which tells SourceForge to point to the clean builds only.

Indeed. I know Slashdot is inconsistant with regards to how old a story is before it's posted here, but this story is pretty high profile and has been shown on virtually all tech-related sites so far... except for Slashdot, who's owners also run SourceForge.

Slashdot are acting exactly like any other commercially-run institution - pretending that bad news which affects their reputation doesn't exist.
