Yesterday morning, July 5th, my "landlord" (formerly a friend) in New Mexico kicked me out of the place I had rented (and paid the rent in advance for) until the end of August. This is too public a forum to discuss the issues (even with my limited understanding of them), but suffice it to say I lost a friend and a place to stay in one fell swoop. Well, I'm fairly sure now I never really had the friend, but at least I thought I had a friend in this person until yesterday morning.

I am in Dallas, I drove here yesterday, because I knew I could find some friends and/or family to impose myself upon on short notice. I did (thanks, Jim), and now I am trying to put the pieces together.

So, for those who thought they might see me this summer, I'm sorry. I can say that this incident was not my doing, I ran headlong into another person's psychopathology and I don't know that there's any way it could have been avoided other than just having the wisdom (somehow) to have avoided trusting this individual in the first place. The entire plan was doomed from the beginning, I just didn't find that out until yesterday morning.

It is stormy and overcast in Dallas, appropriate for my mood. I'll let you guys know when I figure out what I am going to do from here.

    • Your kindness is well received. Your wife is exercising reasonable care and caution in the world that we live in, I take no offense. My main regret now is that I did not get in touch during the brief foray into the area in June. I drove right by on 470, at one point I'm sure I was within a stone's throw of Casa Butcher, but I assumed I would be back for a lengthy visit this week.

        • I'm really sorry I didn't stop. To be honest, my schedule was being dominated by the demands of my former friend's expectations, and since he was showing me around, and his friend was showing me around, I didn't want to assert my own agenda out of deference and civility. Now I realize I was just being a feckless doormat, so I failed you as well as myself by being such a an idiot. Never again.

          I'll learn.

          I'll make it up to you. Thanks for the faith in my intentions.

    Sucks man. Enjoy Dallas, maybe you can see the spot in Deep Elem or Ellem where I got arrested on new years 2001. :)
    • It's Deep Ellum. Elm St is the main feature of the area, or it used to be, and it was the black part of downtown, and Texas blacks make two syllables out of the word "Elm"--El-lum, hence the name. I know the area well, where did the infamous arrest take place? I'll get a picture for you if you'd like.

        that's the ticket.

        There's a bar there that has several different "styles" of atmosphere. There's this cigar bar..I don't remember the name of it...but it's kinda tucked into the corner.

        Anyway, if you see this place, just buy a cigar with a real $20 and enjoy it. I really don't want a picture, thanks though. :)
