rdewald's Journal: Well, I'm going to Texas

Tomorrow morning I will be winging my way from JFK International Airport to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

But not for the reason you might think.

My father had a heart attack on Wednesday morning and is currently in the Coronary Care Unit of a major Dallas teaching hospital being sustained by an intra-aortic ballon pump until his surgeon feels comfortable enough with the condition of what's left of his heart muscle to do a triple bypass.

I spoke to his surgeon on the phone this afternoon. The situation is grave.

I'll probably have time to keep you guys up to date here. There's only a few times a day I can get in to visit, so ironically, I'll probably be on line more than usual. Certainly more than I was planning to be for the next few days.

Saving the world is going to have to wait.

Interestingly enough, I got the news during the last two hours of duty on my current job. I don't report for the new one until 9/13, which is probably enough time to get to a resolution of some sort. Stay tuned.

Good luck to your dad and yourself. A good friend of mine just had her dad go through a double bypass surgery. He came out ok, but it did put a bit of a strain on the family.

I'm so sorry to hear that. You, and your family are in my thoughts. I hope everything turns out okay for your father! My grandfather had quadruple bypass surgery some number of years ago after his second major heart attack. He's still around! Hopefully, your father will have the same future.
