Submission + - Australia to get mandatory internet filters. (abc.net.au)

ratzmilk writes: Australia is to get mandatory internet filters to be applied by ISP's to protect the children of Australia. Is this any different to the filters the Chinese government uses to protected it's people from the evils of the internet, such as free speech or freedom of expression? Will the next step be to filter sites that criticize the government?

"Telecommunications Minister Stephen Conroy says new measures are being put in place to provide greater protection to children from online pornography and violent websites. Senator Conroy says it will be mandatory for all internet service providers to provide clean feeds, or ISP filtering, to houses and schools that are free of pornography and inappropriate material."
