Sorry to reply to my own post, but I hit submit before thinking to put in the rest of my point. On the other side of the coin, I see a few bright individuals without degrees that have a strong work ethic and genuinely want to do a good job. These people outperform and are rewarded for doing a great job. Luckily this company encourages, rewards, and promotes this behavior, regardless of the degree requirement. TLDR - stupid people can get degrees, smart people can succeed with or without a degree in almost any field. Degrees are useless, expensive, and a waste of time.

My anecdotal evidence lines up with yours fairly well. In my place of work, we've hired around 100 sales people in the last two years. From that number, a good chunk of them were new grads who had never had professional a job before. Others came from other industries. Many of them are still struggling to do their jobs today, two years later. Some of them even have a Masters degree and from what I can tell, are just as stupid as the next guy, with little work ethic, or drive to succeed. Almost all of them sure have a giant sense of entitlement, though.

If these are all network printers that support PCL, there is no need to bother going through a driver or using any of the OS printing calls. You can simply use your scripting language of choice to open up a network connection on port 9100 and dump your own PCL code right to the port. The printer will interpret the PCL code natively and you're good to go.

PETA Using Games To Spread Its Message 477

Cooking Mama is a series of games for the Wii and the DS in which players go through a number of steps to prepare meals using a variety of recipes. Last week, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) created their own Flash-based parody of the game, highlighting the use of meat products by having a more bloody-minded Mama do things like pull the internal organs from a Thanksgiving turkey. Cooking Mama's maker, Majesco, issued a light-hearted response, pointing out the vegetarian meals in the game. PETA then said they plan to continue making parody games as a way of "engaging the public."

Free Wireless Band Gets FCC OK 77

narramissic writes "Last month the FCC conducted tests to determine whether mobile devices using a new US radio band (2,155 to 2,175 MHz) with free wireless service would cause significant interference with cell phones using a nearby band. Now, the results are in and in a report released Friday, the FCC concluded that 'the analysis shows that an AWS-1 and AWS-3 device operating in close proximity does not necessarily result in interference.' Still, T-Mobile accuses the FCC of basing its conclusions on new assumptions that weren't used when the tests took place. But at least one party is happy: M2Z praised the report, saying 'There is no longer any need for American consumers, the public interest and the FCC's regulatory process to be held hostage as it has been for the last five months by incumbent carriers... who have used unfounded claims of interference to disguise their intent to prevent the introduction of new broadband competition in the AWS-3 band.'"
