Get over what? I'd prefer vim + latex + acroread to Word even if the memory requirements were similar; the fact that they're lower is just an added bonus. Of course, if MS-Office is the way you want to go, you do what you've got to do; and you're right, for most people in the richer countries, the cost of an extra 64MB say is not such a big deal.
The people who do get bitten by the Microsoft memory bloat are the secretaries with older machines, sitting and waiting while MS Office grinds away at its latest go-slow feature (thumbnails, anyone?). But of course that's largely their employer's fault, and their employer's cost too.
I don't think we really disagree about this; just for some reason, you want to agree acrimoniously. If it makes you happy, that's OK.
