Comment Re:A crazy, dangerous, chauvinistic, and common id (Score 1) 751

The idea that wealth is correlated to productivity is flat out easy to prove wrong. The hardest working people in the world are invariably the poorest.

Economics 101: productivity != hard work. Economic progress in a free market is not a zero sum game.

Comment Good luck getting one (Score 1) 84

The US supplier network for pi zero sucks. It's pretty hard to get one from Adafruit and even if you do, they rip you off on shipping (last order was $12 UPS ground shipping that took almost two weeks to arrive - fail). They use a bunch of their inventory on the 'starter pack' kits to sell a bunch of overpriced stuff you generally don't need. Despite their status in the community, I really dislike dealing with adafruit and I get suspicious when I hear things from the pi foundation about 'exclusive deals' with these lame retailers.

Comment ISIS is really not that scary (Score 2) 97

Not for us in the US anyway. The best they can hope for is to make a few 'lone wolf' attacks here and there. It's an interesting psychological phenomenon that people are so afraid of something bad happening at random, despite the odds of it happening being incredibly small (and dwarfed by other more common things such as auto accidents).

Comment The only way this will change... (Score 1) 194

Even if legislation were to pass tomorrow making them illegal the gov would continue using them for the so-called 'extreme' circumstances. 'Stingrays' are a classing MITM attack and could be prevented using certificates and a chain of trust in much the same way as we use on the internet.

Comment Re:wrong translation (Score 1) 460

Totally agree. There is so much red tape for everything these days. While I realize there is some public interest in the safety regulations they also serve to protect existing infrastructure and people who have a vested interest in it. Sure gasoline is flammable but it's not like the average vehicle isn't already driving around with 10-30 gallons of it. Setup a proper tank and pumping equipment and it'll be totally safe.

Comment Re:How does a plastic bag get to 1700 feet? (Score 2, Informative) 120

Updrafts can go extremely high. How high depends on various atmospheric conditions but 1700 is nothing even on a bad day. Just look at a cumulus cloud and chances are you're seeing the top of an "updraft". I've seen bags and misc light trash while flying around 12,000 ft before.
