I remember watching the Star Trek 4 movie in a theater. Mr. Spock and Kirk were riding on a public bus of 1980's Earth. Sitting next to them was a rider playing his boom box at high volume. Kirk asked the rider to lower his volume. The rider flipped his middle finger and increased the volume. Mr Spock neck pinched the rider, the rider went unconscious and hits the boom box button turning it off. Everyone on the bus applaud Mr. Spock. The people in the theater were laughing and applauding.

Eating in the restaurant results in dirty dishes reused after cleaning by the staff. Delivered food results in a pile of plastic and paper garbage ending up filling a landfill.

Kicking the climate change can down the road so poor people can have cheap electricity now means big trouble for the children of poor people despite burning that cheap and reliable coal.

Capitalism promoting never-ending economic growth despite a finite earth results in environmental damage.

You illustrated a problem with the current housing crisis in USA. Getting local government approval to build homes is easier for family houses versus apartment condos. If 50 houses are built then 100 couples have enough housing, but if 1 apartment complex is built for 100 units then 100 single people have enough housing. The apartment complex has the advantage of more dense housing reducing suburban sprawl.

A large percentage of older voters have children and grand children. I wonder why they think climate change and the sixth mass extinction will not make life difficult for their offspring. I guess leaving an inheritance to their offspring will solve the problems of climate change.

How about the future of their grandchildren? The older and selfish Republicans should care about the future of their genes. Those genes depend on the future of the planet.

How about the current mass extinction event added to climate change. That will make Earth less supportive of humans. The rate at which CO2 is added is much faster than any other time in Earth's history.

Your conclusion is sad for humanity. If the only way for a good economy is playing nasty with the environmental rules then nature is nasty to humans with climate change and loss of biodiversity. In the long run, a nasty nature will wreck the economy since humans depend on nature. In fact, right now, nature is hurting the economy with more extreme weather like hurricanes, heat waves and coastal flooding from climate change.

Humans are not only causing climate change, they are causing a mass extinction event. I feel sorry for all the plants and animals dying because of us. I'm not talking about saving the whole planet. I'm talking about saving the planet's other living things besides humans. Many species are in danger of being wiped out.
