All kidding aside, like (mostly) everyone else, I recommend either holding on to them to use as loaners in the classroom, or give them away. Try to remember if you were in a situation (temporarily or even long term) where you didn't have a calculator for whatever reason in class (especially as a kid). Wouldn't this have made you feel better?

I've seen others be successful using these applications for note taking with relative success, but besides the ability to print multiple copies, I don't see how this differs much from a piece of paper and pen (and even then you can always copy/scan your paper notes). Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with using either of these methods, but when I'm in a meeting I'd much rather use something where the information is stored in a searchable format (currently use OneNote). Unless I remember which meeting we happened to discuss a particular topic, I'm going to have real trouble finding what was said without reviewing a ton of information. Just my $0.02.

The issue is assholes entering the intersection to turn left when it isn't clear...

This general idea is one of the biggest issues that I see with traffic problems. People for some reason either don't agree on what the law is (as a further poster notes, it's legal and encouraged to enter the intersection for a left turn in many states if not all in the US), or just don't know. Now am I a perfect driver? Not by a long shot, but the fact that people have different ideas of what the actual law is while driving is one of the most concerning (and at times frustrating) thing to me as a driver.

The government could also keep track of who was purchasing and using drugs.

This would be my concern. If I want to take drugs, am I really going to be interested in going into a government sponsored building to take these (Note: I don't actually take drugs)? The stigma itself may prevent some, and the fact that the government is tracking it could really turn others off too. That's why I wonder if this was done, would it really prevent people from getting drugs in other illegal ways, just to hide the fact that they are doing it? I'm not against legalization whatsoever, it's just that I'm not so convinced that it would 100% fix the problems we currently run into today. I think it could certainly solve many problems, but I don't think it's a magic bullet.

Comment Novel idea (Score 1) 119

I'm surprised to see that the only comments modded up are those bashing the idea. I think it's novel. I imagine it's extremely difficult to implement with any positive effect and in this case probably doesn't work very well, but i can certainly see cases where this would be at least interesting, if not fun. I frequently read with music on in the background, i think it can help set a stage. I mean, imagine reading a good World War II novel with the soundtrack to something like the Band of Brothers soundtrack. Again, i'm sure it's difficult to implement well but all this bashing of the idea? I'm disappointed. Heck, it's a Friday, i would think everyone would be in a better mood...

Completely agree. Having used both a fax machine and scanners (I know, I know, I'm fancy), the fax machine is just easier to use. Either I go to one machine, plug in a phone number, then drop the pages in and have it do the rest of the work, or I go to the scanner (usually) feed the sheets one at a time, grab the file off of the print server, attach it in an email and then send it. The fax machine does ALL the work for you, where as the scanner, not so much. I understand there are all in one solutions, but at least in my experience, the copy/fax/scanner is just downright confusing on how to use or doesn't work accurately. Just my $0.02

So assuming it didn't break into millions (or billions) of little pieces upon entry into the atmosphere or upon contacting the ocean, and also didn't sink in some unreachable place (all possibilities that would probably happen for all I know), would we be able to some day SCUBA dive to see the remains? Am I the only one that thinks this would be an incredible experience? I'm sure there are tons of considerations stopping this, but I'm seriously wondering if in my lifetime I'd be able to see the ISS (or parts of it) up close and personal.

Goof? Really? If this were Sony, we'd be calling for their heads on a platter because our private data was potentially breached! A goof is when I forget the parking brake on my car and it rolls into another car in the parking lot. A goof is when you take a test but forget to check that backside for questions. Ridiculous lack of QA thereby putting information (whether you should trust the cloud or not) at risk is unacceptable, especially given the 4 hours it took to recover. Note: I hate Sony as much as the rest of /., but like equality.
