Great news :-) Now, will the kernel people with Mr. Torvalds at their head, restart the whole debate on pluggable schedulers. Since his scheduler, as he says, degrades beyond 16 CPUs, better options already exists for servers where I am guessing CFS is used. So, he may be back, but the road ahead is still as steep?

For what it's worth I (the last maintainer of the PLUGSCHED patch) have started reimplementing PLUGSCHED against the latest kernel source (now that the CFS scheduler code has stabilized). My reasons are much the same as Con's i.e. poor interactive response on the desktop necessitating renicing Xorg to -6 to fix.

I'll be aiming to make available all the schedulers that were in PLUGSCHED in 2007 when it was last released and should have it available later this year. It is unlikely that the CPU scheduler driver interface will be able to support as radical a scheduler as Con's BFS (at least in the first version) but staircase should be there.

Cheers
