Yup, that's right! The impression this has created is that it is the first satellite developed indegenious. This grossly incorrect, the INSAT series has been going on for decades. This is the development of a lunch vehicle, a rocket, with the capabilities of putting major communication satellites (which are usually in the geostationary orbit) into orbit. This would make the entire space program self-dependent. Uptil now, they developed satellites indegenously but used foreign launch vehicles (Europe's Ariane for the last few launches) to put them into orbit.
