I celebrated the anniversary over at TIME.com by chatting with the company's indomitable founder, Nolan Bushnell, who also started Chuck E. Cheese and more than 20 other companies--mostly unsuccessful, but often visionary--and hired and influenced Steve Jobs when he was an antisocial Reed College dropout."

Why? because "Brave" is the debut of Dolby's Lab's new 62.2 surround sound format called Atmos, which adds new innovations such as developments such as pan-through array and overhead speakers. With 62 speakers and 2 subwoofers, only a handful of theaters nationwide will be able to show the film at its full throttle. Dolby has produced a new highly informative video that talks about how movie sound has progressed from mono to stereo to LCR (left/center/right) to 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound and now Atmos. The big question is will the 62.2 format system be adapted for home theaters intent on emulating the immersive movie experience?"

Except there's a small problem, our esteemed President Jimmy Carter made fuel reprocessing illegal, citing non-proliferation concerns. Or maybe fears of giant killer rabbits, idunno. So, whoever got the contract would need to get a waiver. Or secede. And with nukes, they could get away with it. All even sentences of this paragraph are spoken in jest. Or are they?

NVIDIA's Drivers Caused 28.8% Of Vista Crashes In 2007 344

PaisteUser tips us to an Ars Technica report discussing how 28.8% of Vista's crashes over a period in 2007 were due to faulty NVIDIA drivers. The information comes out of the 158 pages of Microsoft emails that were handed over at the request of a judge in the Vista-capable lawsuit. NVIDIA has already faced a class-action lawsuit over the drivers. From Ars Technica: "NVIDIA had significant problems when it came time to transition its shiny, new G80 architecture from Windows XP to Windows Vista. The company's first G80-compatible Vista driver ended up being delayed from December to the end of January, and even then was available only as a beta download. In this case, full compatibility and stability did not come quickly, and the Internet is scattered with reports detailing graphics driver issues when using G80 processors for the entirely of 2007. There was always a question, however, of whether or not the problems were really that bad, or if reporting bias was painting a more negative picture of the current situation than what was actually occurring."

This isn't an issue of signal quality, it's an issue of DRM. HDMI has DRM, component does not. The fact that the Xbox 360 does not have HDMI out makes it the high-definition playback device I've been waiting for to hook up to my projector. Sony on the other hand makes it difficult to use the PS3 without using HDMI.

1) A Jaguar design engineer told me once he was into CAD: cardboard aided design. Don't mess with a complicated finite element analysis when you can answer a question with something simple and low-tech.

This was occasioned by son and I disagreeing over whether the light switch at the bottom of he stairs should be positioned "up" for off or "down":

No problem is so intractible as two men with contradictory irrationalities.
