Google Outlines Feature Set For Android 2.2 305

evdotorrey writes "Google announced new features and improvements for Android 2.2. New features include Flash and HTML 5 support, faster browser performance using the V8 engine, Microsoft Exchange support, a Portable Hotspot feature that makes your phone a Wi-Fi hotspot, and many more exciting features." An anonymous reader adds some more on the new release, codenamed Froyo: "Google claims the operating system will be from two to five times faster thanks to advances made in the compilers and the Dalvik virtual machine it uses, and how it is ported to new processors and platforms. On the enterprise front the new operating system comes with full support for Microsoft Exchange, including access to the global address book and the ability to translate native security features to mobile handsets. APIs have also been added to allow controls such as the automatic wiping of missing handsets and other remote management features. Google is also making its voice translation and search APIs open to developers, and showed off an application developed for the handset that allowed real time translation from English to French."

If you'd get a normal tablet or computer, you wouldn't need to jailbreak it. Apple is moving us towards closed computer environments. If Microsoft did this everyone would be angry about it, but now that it's Apple its all fine and classy.

I can't believe that I automatically had root access.
Now the bozos who will use the iPad sure I want to lock them out but I have to be able to adjust anything at the root level. Give me a mirror, generic set up or default setup and even if I do get way off of course I can still go back.

Anyone who has coded rapid development will tell you that:

Perfection is unattainable and the very good only happens in an iterative manner. So look at this as a start, and I'd much rather have a start to work off of than the status quo.

Don't know why Republicans have not pushed for these policies:

1> Any insurance company can sell insurance in any state UNLESS that state finds that they have acted in an illegal manner. This to be established by the state.

2> Taking away the trust protections in place that are only held by them and major league baseball. Remember Teddie Roosevelt.

We have nothing to fear but Fox itself.

So true. Because any voice contrary to what we already believe should be feared and silenced!

Sarcasm noted and agreed with. However there should be reasonable argument whose points don't have to include conspiracy theories.
