When I've got to learn a programming language from on-line/on-screen docs, it takes me about three times as long as if I had a printed book. Mostly because it's harder on the eyes, I can't bring it with me when I go to pick somebody up at the airport(that's a good 2 hours of wasted time), etc., etc..

I completely agree. One major issue that I have is that I can't jot notes down as easily in electronic documentation (such as a PDF, for example) as I can with a hard copy. Electronic documentation, at least all I've seen of it, doesn't have a convenient way to makes notes in the margins. With good old paper, and can make notes all over the place, making it a better source for not only me, but whoever happens upon the manual at a later date. Much easier to accidently delete electronic documentation than it is to throw away a book.

Plus (and I realize this is a bit absurd), if all your documentation is in electronic form, it would be a little hard to read the trouble-shooting section if the problem you are looking for involves making your computer boot..
