We actually have evidence of that in the case of j allard and the development of the Microsoft courier. Apparently the head of windows development was worried the device would compete with windows so he went to ballmer to have it torpedoed. Balmier wasn't sure, so he brought Billy gates in to mediate and he decided to play it safe. Which is a massive shame as the courier looked awesome.

It is becoming a classic way of insulting Australians who want their higher wages to mean something. Making twice as much money is meaningless when our retailers triple the cost of overseas. People, often people who work for companies that make a mint off of this price gouging, like to tell us to suck it up as we earn more. Which is a false equivalence as our dollar is near parity with the USA, we should be paying near the same cost for goods and services as Americans.

Submission + - ESA declares flagship Envisat observing satellite lost (spaceflightnow.com)

An anonymous reader writes: "The European Space Agency on Wednesday declared the Envisat environmental satellite lost one month after the bus-sized craft unexpectedly stopped communicating 10 years after its launch. 'Although chances of recovering Envisat are extremely low, the investigation team will continue attempts to re-establish contact while considering failure scenarios for the next two months,' ESA said in a written statement." This failure leaves a break in Earth observation data by ESA until the next generation satellites are launched in 2 years time.

No one answered my question, so I wiki'd you. It seems like you have been pretty influential over the years, and I don't dislike user Linux. At the same time you seem to be much more of a moderate than RMS. So while I am sure your illness or passing would definitely be newsworthy I doubt people would have as much to say about you that wasn't positive.

And in another post on this very article I said that while I do not see eye to eye with the man, I do respect him as one of a pantheon of heroes who brought computing to where it is today. That of course does not mean that true negative points are removed from the discussion. Arguments can only be countered with fact, it is useless to say "but I don't like it therefore it shouldn't be discussed". And RMS himself would agree.

That's all exciting, and yes I am totally jelly as my own coding abilities are less than what they should be. But none of that addresses my point. Non of what he says ever strikes me as logical, it always comes off as simple emotion. Like what a politician would say if they didn't have someone moderating every word. Also, a great deal of hubris. But I don't buy the argument that any of his views cone from pure logic. I am not bashing the guy, it just doesn't click together.
