I have had that email too in the past, the claim was using Windows Remote Desktop to spy and gain access to your webcam stuff like that. As I dont use Windows at all, I just replied with a Goatse. Never heard back from them.

As long as Canonical tries to push everyone down the Snaps path, Ubuntu and its flavors are distros I always recommend against. Personally Im not even sure if I should even recommend downstream distros like Mint, Pop_OS! or ElementaryOS (all distros that are genuinely good).
