Submission + - Another major game engine gets Linux support ahead of Steam Machines launch (engadget.com)

probain writes: The engine that powers the Crysis series, CryEngine, is headed to Linux. That means games like Crysis 3 and Ryse: Son of Rome could see ports on Valve's forthcoming Linux-powered platform, SteamOS. At very least, it means that developers already working with CryEngine have a shortcut to porting their work to Steam Machines; Crytek will show it off in detail next week at the annual Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. Linux support was long-rumored for CryEngine, with job listings as far back as last July hinting that it was coming. It's unclear when the engine will get updated to support the new platform, but we expect it'll be long before Valve's Steam Machines initiative gets seriously underway.

Submission + - Valve jpins The Linux Foundation (engadget.com) 1

probain writes: In case Valve's multi-tiered investment in Linux gaming weren't clear enough from SteamOS, the Steam Controller and Steam Machines, the company's also joining the ranks of The Linux Foundation membership. Valve Linux head Mike Sartain calls the news, "one of the many ways Valve is investing in the advancement of Linux gaming"; he sees the move as yet another step for Valve toward its bigger goal of popularizing accessible Linux-based gaming.

The Boy Who Loved Batman 157

theodp writes "As a young boy, Batman producer Michael Uslan — a self-described 'ultimate comic book geek' — was traumatized to see the Caped Crusader being 'murdered' in front of his very eyes by the camp 60's TV series. 'I was horrified,' Uslan told a Harper College audience last week. 'I was horrified because the whole world was laughing at Batman, and that just killed me.' At that point, the 13-year-old vowed to teach the world about the Batman he knew, about the crusader who lurked in the shadows, about a darker, grittier superhero. As told in his memoir The Boy Who Loved Batman, he made good on that vow: Uslan has served as the executive producer of all Batman major motion pictures, from 1989's Batman to the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises (trailer)."

With this high speed capability, they can actually SEE the movement of photons of light across a scene or object. This is just mind-boggling.

I study CS, and feel confortable to say that I know way around most problems, and how to solve them ( for the most part)
However(!) When my crappy fps in WoW whent down from a steady 30fps(not-to-shappy-graphix-setting (XP)) to a sub 7fps(extremely UGGLY (MINIMUM) settings) in VISTA, I felt a small resentment and once again felt the dissapointment of MS. And thats not all.
Even though I have a full good system, with common parts, I (don't ask me how) got so lucky to se a BLUE SCREEN!!

Overall XP wins over Vista 99% in terms of windows usage... Windows is still inferior to the simplicity of a good linux system... To bad we don't have the games to give us a 100% OC-system
