I agree. I've been a PC-only gamer forever, but this whole Steambox/OS/controller thinger is intriguing. I'd happily build my own Steam box, put the OS on it, and buy a controller to play Portal in my living room.

I do wonder about their target audience with all of this. Will they be able to crack into the market already owned by one of the consoles? Or are they hoping that by luring PC users over to this new model they'll get them to buy more games/hardware. Maybe they're following Amazon's route of just trying to get as many people as possible hooked on the ecosystem...

I'm very sorry for Mr. Banks and his family. I'm sure this is basically impossible to process properly, so hopefully he's able to find some happiness in the days he has left. I found 'The Algebraist' in a bookshop in London, and after reading the blurb on the back, knew I immediately had to buy it. After reading nearly all of his SF books, I can honestly say he's my favorite SF author. He'll be sorely missed.

Yeah, nothing like paying extortionate prices for beer and the film being interrupted, first by talking and then people getting kicked out. Sounds great.

Glad that we don't have to deal with pricks like you at the Drafthouse. That said, I haven't been in years, and I sorely miss it. I cannot explain why every cool college town doesn't have a Drafthouse clone. Luckily for those of us on the west coast, they're opening on in SF soon.

Slashdot seems to be very U.S.-centric. Do you have any plans to be more international in your scope?
Slashdot is U.S.-centric. We readily admit this, and really don't see it as a problem. Slashdot is run by Americans, after all, and the vast majority of our readership is in the U.S. We're certainly not opposed to doing more international stories, but we don't have any formal plans for making that happen. All we can really tell you is that if you're outside the U.S. and you have news, submit it, and if it looks interesting, we'll post it.
