Open Office has always been slow as hell on any machine I've ever used it on. I really like the 'save as PDF' option but opening a document, even saved in the OO format takes about forever and a day.
It isn't easy being the parent of a six-year-old. However, it's a pretty small price to pay for having somebody around the house who understands computers.
