Core Audio and VST plugins (Score 1)

Core Audio is a very attractive interface for audio plugins. However, I doubt that many software developers will abandon VST for Core Audio. VST is a cross-platform standard for both Windows and Macs, with an SDK that makes cross-platform development very easy. Some Mac-only software developers might start developing in Core Audio, but many of the major audio recording companies, such as MOTU and Digidesign, already have their own proprietary plugin formats, that they will probably wish to maintain.
