Parasites - Cryptosporidium (also known as "Crypto")

Cryptosporidium is a microscopic parasite that causes the diarrheal disease cryptosporidiosis. Both the parasite and the disease are commonly known as “Crypto.”

Apparently it can infect humans and be transferred between humans in a secure and decentralized manner even if nobody trusts the infected humans.

And if it hadn't been for IBM's antitrust woes, the world would have never known of Bill Gates.

"On Nov. 6, 1980, the contract that would change the future of computing was signed: IBM would pay Microsoft $430,000 for what would be called MS-DOS. But the key provision in that agreement was the one that allowed Microsoft to license the operating system to other computer manufacturers besides IBM — a nonexclusive arrangement that IBM agreed to in part because it was caught up in decades of antitrust investigations and litigation. IBM’s legal caution, however, would prove to be Microsoft’s business windfall, opening the door for the company to become the dominant tech company of the era."

Microsoft certainly still has their faults, but I think it is safe to say that they have done a lot to clean up their monopolistic act.

Yeah, like getting their asses kicked so their monopoly is not as dangerous:

Zune --> iPod
Microsoft Tablet PC --> iPad
Lumia/Nokia --> iPhone
IE --> Firefox (and then Chrome)
JScript/ActiveX --> JavaScript
Outlook --> Gmail
IIS Web Server --> Linux + other open source

Microsoft didn't clean up by choice.
