Comment Powershell workflow automation (Score 2) 427

There's a product called PowerWF Studio from Devfarm software that combines the best of building block "drag and drop" workflow development with an excellent Powershell editor. Definitely worth a look for this type of situation.

FD: I don't work for the company, but I happen to be friends with the owner. I'd recommend looking at it regardless.

Google Shows Off Ad-Supported Cell Phone 290

taoman1 writes "Today Google showed off a ad-supported cellphone that the company plans to offer for free to interested parties. The product could reach the marketplace within a year, and will offer Google search, email, and a web browser. 'The move would echo another recent product launched by a phone industry outsider, Apple Inc.'s iPhone. But Google's product would draw its revenue from a sharply different source, relying on commercial advertising dollars instead of the sticker price of at least US$499 for an iPhone and $60 per month for the AT&T Inc. service plan. Negotiating the fairest way to split those advertising revenues with service providers could be a big hurdle for Google, one analyst said. Another problem is the potential that consumers could be scared off by the prospect of listening to advertisements before being able to make phone calls, said Jeff Kagan, a wireless and telecommunications industry analyst in Atlanta.'"

KDE 4.0 Beta 1 Released 249

dbhost writes "Along with this morning's cup of coffee and log reviews, I discovered that the KDE team is moving forward with a long awaited beta release of KDE 4.0 beta release of KDE 4.0. The most interesting item I found in the notes is that the file manager in KDE is being separated from Konqueror into a component called Dolphin. Also, according to the announcement, konsole has been treated to a number of improvements such as split view, and history highlighting."

Submission + - Point and click Gmail hacking at Black Hat (tgdaily.com)

not5150 writes: "Using Gmail or most other webmail programs over an unsecured access points just got a bit more dangerous. At Black Hat, Robert Graham, CEO of errata security, showed how to capture and clone session cookies. He even hijacked a shocked attendee's Gmail account in the middle of his Black Hat speech."

And by "authorized or assisted in the attacks" do you mean kept the extremists in check? There has been no proof, that I've heard of, that Saddam or Iraq had anything to do with the 9/11 attacks. There has been anecdotal evidence that he had tried to have them assassinated. Invading Iraq was just a bad idea, period.

Actually, since the bug only affects the first 2048 bytes of content, and only when using the IE back button, one solution I have heard suggested before is to prepend the content with 2048 spaces.

This might sound counter-intuitive, but 2k spaces compresses *very* well (about 14 bytes according to a quick test).

Of course, it's always a shame to have to put in a hack like this to get around IE's "features" (after being in as many versions as this has, its hard to think of it as just a bug anymore) in the first place...
