Yeah, I agree. I used to work for a computer retailer years ago and at least once every couple of years they would destroy a bunch of hardware. It was more financially advantageous to destroy the equipment than it was to donate it, or sell it at a large loss.
If you want to be angry at someone, it should be the ones making the tax laws. Of course, if these laws didn't exist companies would find a way to take advantage of it.
Interestingly, because of the relatively high value of the equipment, someone from Revenue Canada was present while the equipment was being destroyed.
