EMP (Spoiler) (Score 1)

For an author that goes to such great lengths to be technically accurate in this book, there is one egregious error that bugged me. (SPOILER FOLLOWS)

When the Feds destroy Randy's laptop (as well as his car) with a large EMP device, he takes the hard disk out of the dead laptop and later puts it into another laptop to recover everything on the disk. Yet, even if the disk surfaces themselves were unaffected by the EMP, all the electronics in the drive, including the read/write heads, would have been toasted by the pulse. Recovering this disk was crucial to the plot, so perhaps a little artistic license was unavoidable.
