Comment No support in other OSS products (Score 1) 704

I don't find support for PostgreSQL in all the other OSS products I use. Last time I checked, I couldn't integrate a PostgreSQL database with a semi-complex DB-backed mail system based on Postfix/Courier-IMAP/SpamAssassin/Amavis/Courier-M aildrop/etc. And it is odd to me that if PostgreSQL is becoming more popular in the OSS developer world that there are not more PostgreSQL integration options with these kinds of tools.

For me, that's always been the barrier, even though, having come from the Oracle world before I sat down with MySQL (and at the time thought it was a piece of $&#!@), PostgreSQL seemed technically superior. However, as I wait around for better OSS support for PostgreSQL, MySQL has made a lot of strides, especially with the InnoDB storage engine, in terms of more complex functionalities (transactions/nested queries/etc) and more enterprise-like reliability and features (clustering, replication, etc).... so, while MySQL may not be Oracle yet, I am finding fewer and fewer reasons why I will need to change, even if PostgreSQL finally becomes more widely integrated into other OSS apps.

(Maybe the subject should start with "Not enough")
